You don't have to be perfect

You Don’t Have To Be Perfect
From the book, The Edge by Kamana Rey Bajenting & Steve del Mar

In cockfighting you don’t have to do everything right, just avoid major mistakes
Aim for good performance, not for perfection. In cockfighting nobody is perfect. As stated, there is no absolute right or absolute wrong in this game. Except perhaps for things designed to fix the outcome of a match purposely.
Striving for perfection or for an unrealistic goal, whether in breeding or in fighting, will only slow down progress. It is easy to be average, hard to be good, harder to be better, hardest to be best, and impossible to be perfect.
Yes, you don’t have to remember all the do’s. Just avoid doing the don’ts.
For example, instead of looking for a perfect fighting machine, in selecting a rooster, watch out for and avoid marked weaknesses in the fighting style.
I don’t look for cocks that invariably top the opponents in the air; beat the opponents to the punch upon reaching the ground; and evade all of the enemies blows. Instead I only detect weaknesses. I reject outright cocks that are flatfooted, awkward, and lacking in some concrete attributes like adequate balance and gait.. Likewise for cocks that habitually go for a billhold, cocks that make a move without striking, and cocks that are a bit dumb, a bit slow, and the like.
As a result, the warriors in the RB Sugbo stable are not mostly angat, not mostly ground fighters, not mostly powerful. Yet, they are mostly quick, smart, agile and strong enough.
When you succeed in avoiding the weaknesses, you are left with nothing but strengths.
